A S RAO Talent Test

DR. A.S. RAO AWARDS COUNCIL

(A Voluntary Organization formed to Spot and Nurture Talent in Science)

Vision

The aim of school education is reduced to one of the obtaining good marks leading to our emphasis on bookish knowledge. It was felt that an independent voluntary organization could provide suitable direction to enthusiastic and talent student. Thus, a non-profit voluntary society under the DR. A.S RAO AWARD COUNCIL was founded in 1988 (registered in 1989) in the name of first MD of ECIL, Hyderabad.

The aims of council are:

1. To spot and nurture talented students, and 2. To promote excellence in teaching science and mathematics

STSE

The council conducts a unique yearly Science Talent Search Examination (STSE) to spot talent in high school students. As part of nurturing the talented students, the council organizes a week long residential science workshop (RSW) for the awardees of 9th standard, free of cost to the participants, in April-May. Each participant does project work, writes a report and makes an oral presentation. This helps the participants develop initiative, to innovate and to critically analyze the experimental data. Participant are exposed to lectures-demonstrations on diverse topics by senior faculty drawn from universities and committed educational industries.

CETSAM

The council recognized the great need to help science teachers from schools in rural and semi-urban areas to cope up with the upgraded syllabi. The council focused its efforts through CETSAM (Capacity Enhancement of Teachers in Science and Mathematics) to help physical science and mathematics teacher of govt. schools in Mahaboobnagar District with active cooperation of the erstwhile (Govt. of Andhra Pradesh) Sir Ratan Tata Trust Funded this project (2005-09). In July 2014, the council on its own organized and conducted a similar 2 day CETSAM in Bhimavaram.

Significance of Dr. A.S. Rao

Ayyagari Sambasiva Rao (1914-2003) was the founding Managing Director of Electronics Corporation of India Limited, Hyderabad.

Shri Rao was a physicist by training, but studied later Electrical Engineering to Stanford University. He was associated with Dr. Homi Bhabha, the well-known nuclear scientist. Shri Rao helped build our country’s first atomic reactor, Apsara, based on ‘self-reliance’. Shri Rao was closely involved in formulating policies for development of electronics in the country.

Shri Rao was conferred Honoaray Doctorate by Andhra University. Shri Rao was also recipient of Padmshri and Padma Bhushan awards.

Srinivasa Ramanujan

( ABOUT RAMANUJAN MATHEMATICS ACADEMY )

A Voluntary Organization

Ramanujan mathematics academy and mathematical library is one of the oldest mathematical voluntary organizations in A.P. It was established by a group of mathematics teachers in a small village Someswram in Rayavaram Mandal E.G.Dt. A.P, for the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan on Dec 22, 1990 under the Leadership of K.V.V Satyanarayana, the president and founder of the academy.

Objective of Ramanujan Mathematics Academy

The main objective of establishing a mathematical academy is to cultivate a good mathematical culture among the young minds, who are the most valuable natural resource for the country’s future. Children need to recognize and feel the beauty, royalty and the importance of mathematics both inside and outside the class room from the basic elementary level .They have to figure out for themselves that mathematics is not just to get good ranks but that the subject occupies a lion’s share in developing the personality of a citizen in entirety.

Furthermore, the academy hopes to make the children enjoy the subject of mathematics with various activities that show them the lives of the mathematicians’ world over, about how they achieved the success and even stood at the numero uno spot, while at the same time, leading a simple and humble life dedicated completely to the field of mathematics.

For 25 years, the academy has been dedicated to conducting various such activities for students, teachers and mathematic lovers alike, leading them to many a different, yet successful path.

Fabulous Achievement from our Student

National Exposure to Students

Mathematical Olympiads are mainly organized to spot mathematical talent in pre-University students. Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) held in India is the first step for an Indian student to get a chance to represent India in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) - the world championship mathematics competition for high school students.

International Exposure to Students

Those who clear Regional Mathematical Olympiad are eligible to sit for the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO), which is conducted by the Mathematical Olympiad (MO) Cell of the Homi Bhabha Centre of the Science Education (HBCSE) under the aegis of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM).

Science Fair Exhibition

SISF

Southern India Science Fair – 2018

SISF jointly organized by Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum (VITM), Bangalore and State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Govt. of Telangana in collaboration with the School Education Departments of the six Southern States, will be hosted by SCERT, Govt of Telangana and organized at Secunderabad.

650 Students and Teachers participated in SISF

With the aim to popularise science, mathematics and environmental education among children and teachers, school education department in the state has decided to conduct a Southern Indian Science Fair (SISF-2018) from January 8 to 12.

The fair will be conducted at St. Patrick’s High School in Secunderabad where students from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducheri, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala will exhibit their experiments and science projects. About 650 students and teachers, 200 volunteers and state and district officials of education department are expected to attend the fair.

Science fair experiment is generally a competition where contestants present their science project, results in the form of a report, display board, and/or models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in elementary, middle and high schools to compete in science and/or technology activities. The main motive of a science fair is for students to answer a question or task, not from a textbook but found out themselves by conducting a range of experiments and ongoing research in the short amount of time allocated to them. In order that the questions or tasks spark a true interest in the student they should be able to have an interesting, eye catching project often portrayed on a display board.

Science fairs also provide a mechanism for students with intense interest in the sciences to be paired with mentors from nearby colleges and universities, so that they can access to instruction and equipment that the local schools cannot provide.
